Australia’s New South Wales State Government declared to list the blast furnace renovation plan of the domestic steel manufacturer BlueScope Steel’s Port Kembla steel plant (with an annual production capacity of 2.1 million tons) as a key infrastructure to ensure the No. 6 blast furnace can be ready for production after the existing No. 5 blast furnace is decommissioned in 2026. The renovation project will cost about AUD 700-800 million.

After the New South Wales Government rejected the expansion plan of the Dendrobium mine, the mine may have to be closed in 2024. However, even if the mine's coking coal supply may be lost, BlueScope still intended to promote the blast furnace renovation plan.
