According to an online forum hosted by aluminum industry representatives from Century Aluminum and Magnitude 7 Metals, a 10% tariff on Canadian imports has been escalated.

The trade lawyer and lobbyist Robert Defrancesco insisted that a sudden increase in Canadian metal imports has happened this year, making it double from a year ago. However, the president of the Aluminum Association of Canada insisted to the contrary, saying that Canadian metal has never been a threat to US national security as they are simply responding to market changes.

At the end of the discussion, Robert Defrancesco said that the US is still going to have to import primary aluminum from somewhere other than Canada, such as Russia, the Middle East, and China.
