According to the German Steel Federation (WV Stahl), German crude steel output totaled 35.7 million tons in 2020, which slid by 10% compared to 2019, hitting the lowest level since 2009.

Hans Jürgen Kerkhoff, WV Stahl president, said that the transformation of the industrial structure was still worrying although there was a slight recovery in the fourth quarter of last year.

Not only the negative impact brought by the COVID-19 epidemic but also the instability in the global steel market and tighter climate policies have stressed the German steel industry.
