India has offered to eliminate tariffs on a specific quota of US imports, including steel, auto components, and pharmaceutical products, in exchange for reciprocal measures from Washington.

Indian officials presented this proposal during their visit to Washington in late April, as both nations work to accelerate the completion of a bilateral trade agreement by fall.

Under the proposed arrangement, duty-free status would apply only until predetermined volume thresholds are reached, after which standard tariff rates would resume.

The negotiations remain ongoing, and it's uncertain whether these proposals will be incorporated into the final agreement.
