On account of the dilemma of COVID-19, the European Steel Association (EUROFER) recently asked the European Union (EU) for a huge reduction of the quota by 75% in comparison with before.

This policy has reflected on the marketplace of Turkish steel products. In the first quarter of this year, Turkish steel imports rose up by 50% year on year, but the export volume to Europea was down by 47% during the same period.

Facing these double stress on its imports and exports, the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD) was calling for possible import tariffs for the European community to balance the situation.
