According to the announcement from Donald Trump on August 6th, the US would consider restarting the 10% import tariff on imported aluminum products from Canada, even both just signed a new United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA) last month.

By the official statistic from the US government, the imports of aluminum products from Canada to the US had increased by 27% year on year in the past 12 months, which harmed the US’ aluminum manufacturers.

After that, Justin Trudeau, the president of Canada, responded that the decision to increase the import tariff on Canadian aluminum would increase the infrastructure costs to the US government, which might further injure the US economy.
