The Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan delivered a letter to the Coal and Mines Minister Pralhad Joshi for a proposal to increase the annual production capacity at Nalco's Angul aluminum smelter, from the current 460,000 tons to 1 million tons, due to a sufficient supply from Angul’s alumina plants.

The expansion was expected to be approximately INR 22,000 crore, and it is in a phase of land acquisition.

Nalco’s aluminum smelter is currently striving for the brownfield expansion project at its aluminum smelter in Angul, Orissa.
