US’ merchant bar imports rise in Mar

According to the final Census Bureau data from the US Department of Commerce (USDOC), the US imported nearly 19,000 tons of merchant bar in March, hiking by 82.2% compared to the previous month and also rising by 71.2% from the same month a year ago.

Among them, the imports from Mexico accounted for the largest proportion, totaling roughly 13,600 tons, a month-on-month increase of 234.3% and a year-on-year hike of 121.9%. Canada ranked second with approximately 5,200 tons, followed by Sweden’s 1,500 tons and Finland’s 1,040 tons.

During the period, the import value totaled roughly US$12 million, up by 47.6% month on month and 53.2% year on year.
