According to the International Aluminium Institute data, Africa’s primary aluminium production recovered in October 2024, experiencing an increase of 3,000 tonnes or 2.24 per cent M-o-M. The monthly gain occurred amid daily average output shortfall of 100 tonnes.

In the said month, Africa’s primary aluminium production stood at 137,000 tonnes versus 134,000 tonnes in September. Compared to the same period of the previous year, Africa’s monthly and daily production of primary aluminium stood restrained.

The monthly gain in Africa’s primary aluminium production during October took the output at the second-highest volume after 138,000 tonnes in August. However, the monthly gain caused no difference in Africa’s contribution to the world's primary aluminium production. In September and October, Africa accounted for 2.2 per cent of the world’s total primary aluminium output.

The global production in October stood at 6.221 million tonnes, up by 3.56 per cent from 6.007 million tonnes in September.

From January to October 2024, Africa produced 1.307 million tonnes, which was down by 1.66 per cent from 1.329 million tonnes during the corresponding period of the previous year, attributed to poor production during the first four months of the year hovering between 122,000 tonnes and 128,000 tonnes.
