Alcoa Corp., a leading aluminum producer in the US, announced that the signing of an additional power purchase agreement with Endesa, a leading electricity company in Spain, to support the future restart of the San Ciprián aluminum smelter in Spain.

According to the agreement, power balancing services will be provided for the aluminum smelter load from 2024 to at least 2030.

Balancing services provide electricity to the smelter’s consumption point, either from baseload volume under a power purchase agreement with Endesa, through other third-party agreements, or directly from the market.

The agreement with Endesa includes up to 131 megawatts of electricity from the second half of 2025 until 2033, representing more than 30% of the smelter’s energy requirements at maximum capacity.
