In April 2025, China’s unwrought aluminium and aluminium product imports stood at 370,000 tonnes, representing a 3.8 per cent year-on-year fall from 380,00 tonnes . In the first four months of 2025, China's imports of unwrought aluminium and aluminium products totalled 1.32 million tonnes. This number shows a fall of 11.4 per cent from the first four months of 2024, where the imports stood at 1.49 million in the same year.
However, on a month-on-month comparison, China’s unwrought aluminium and product imports rose 8.82 per cent from 340,000 tonnes. That was a rebound after a monthly fall of 10.6 per cent in March 2025.
Bauxite imports in April 2025
The imports of bauxite, one of the key raw materials for aluminium production, witnessed a Y-o-Y surge of 46 per cent, reaching 20.7 million tonnes during April 2025. In April 2024, China’s bauxite imports stood at 14.24 million tonnes, representing an increase of 20.02 per cent M-o-M and 18.84 per cent Y-o-Y.
In the first four months of 2025, China imported a total of 67.7 million tonnes of bauxite, representing an upward movement of 34.2 per cent Y-o-Y. As opposed to this, the country's bauxite imports in the first four months of 2024 stood at 50.58 million tonnes as per the customs data. That marked an annual rise of 33.85 per cent in the first four months of 2025.
In March 2025, the country witnessed an increase in bauxite imports by 39.1 per cent Y-o-Y, reaching 16.47 million tonnes. The same in April 2025 alone stood at 20.8 million tonnes, representing a month-on-month increase of 26.3 per cent.
