ArcelorMittal has started clean energy supply to its joint venture AMNS India in Gujarat from a newly commissioned 1-gigawatt (GW) solar and wind project in Andhra Pradesh.
Developed by ArcelorMittal's wholly owned subsidiary AM Green Energy at a cost of US$0.7 billion, this renewable project is expected to reduce AMNS India's carbon emissions by 1.5 million tons per year, in line with ArcelorMittal's goal of reducing steel production’s carbon intensity by 20% by 2030 from the 2021 level.
The 2,400-acre solar farm and 700-acre wind farm, featuring 1.5 million solar panels and 91 wind turbines, will generate 2.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity yearly. This project is part of ArcelorMittal's 2.3 GW renewable energy pipeline across India, Brazil, and Argentina.
