Argentina’s steel manufacturer ArcelorMittal Acindar and aluminum producer Aluar are planning to invest in wind energy in Chubut, southern Argentina.

ArcelorMittal Acindar has inked an agreement with the petrochemical company Petroquimica Comodoro Rivadavia S.A. (PCR) to invest US$140 million for the construction of the San Luis Norte wind farm in Chubut, with 17 of Vestas’s V150 4.5MW turbines and increasing capacity by 76.5MW.

The project was scheduled to be put into operation in the second half of next year and will fulfill ArcelorMittal Acindar’s 30% of power demand through renewable sources.

Meanwhile, Aluar also disclosed its plan to arrange an investment of US$130 million to install 18 turbines with a nominal power of 4.5 MW at its wind farm in a position 20 kilometers from Puerto Madryn. The work will be completed and start operations in December 2023.
