Mineradora Santo Expedito LTDA. has earned ASI Performance Standard V3 (2022) Certification for the planning, mining, transport and dry processing of bauxite at its Mineradora Santo Expedito (MSE) mining site in Barro Alto, Goiás, Brazil.
Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that MSE has been certified against the ASI Performance Standard V3 (2022). The mining site specialises in the extraction and dry processing of bauxite, with an annual production over 650,000 tonnes, serving metallurgical and industrial markets. The site features crushers, vibrating screens, ore classifiers, and multiple storage yards. Other infrastructure includes maintenance workshops, laboratories, warehouses, and a nursery for native seedlings, as well as mining and processing machinery and equipment.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard V3 (2022) was launched in May 2022 following a multi-year revision process. It defines 11 principles and 62 criteria under three sustainability pillars – Environment, Social, and Governance – with the aim to address pressing sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain, such as biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples’ rights, circularity, and greenhouse gas emissions.

The independent, third-party audit of MSE was carried out by Bureau Veritas Certification. A full listing of audit findings outlining evidence of conformances and minor non-conformances is available from page 5 of the summary audit report, linked below. One minor non-conformance is noted under Criterion 11.1a Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Management System. During the Certification Period, MSE will be implementing a corrective action plan, which will be verified in follow-up audits.
