The Australian government will spend A$76.8 million to help Alcoa’s Portland aluminum smelter in Victoria. The decision will ease the pressure on the power grid and continue the operation of this smelter, as well as to keep jobs.

The power grid in Victoria has been under pressure since the Hazelwood power station was closed in 2017.
