Ball Corporation, a provider of metal packaging in the US, announced it will permanently close its aluminum beverage can plant in St. Paul, Minnesota, and lay off around 98 workers, saying that the plant closure and layoffs were due to inflation and decreased customers' demand.

The plant’s closure and workforce elimination were expected to start on February 8, 2023.

According to a report, during the three and nine months ending September 30, Ball had a loss of US$34 million owing to employee severances, depreciation, and downtime costs of this planned closure.
