Brazil’s crude steel output drops in May

According to statistics from Brazil Steel Institute (Instituto Aço Brasil, IABr), in May, Brazil’s crude steel production reached about 2.58 million tons, decreasing by 7.4% from the same month a year ago and declining by 5.2% month on month.

Meanwhile, compared May 2024 to the same month in 2023, the production of steel products went down by 3% month on month and dropped by 1.9% year on year to 1.86 million tons. Concurrently, the country’s steel product consumption increased by 4.9% year on year to 2.14 million tons.
