Brazil's crude steel output increases in H1

For the first half of 2024, Brazil's crude steel production saw a year-on-year increase of 2.4%, reaching about 16.43 million tons, according to data from the Brazil Steel Institute (IABr). Domestic steel product sales increased by 3.5% to 10.1 million tons, while exports of steel products decreased by 25.3% to 4.7 million tons. Imports rose by 23.9% to 2.7 million tons, and apparent consumption grew by 6% to 12.4 million tons.

In June alone, Brazil's crude steel production reached about 2.87 million tons, marking an 11.8% increase from June 2023. During the same period, rolled product output rose by 13.9% year on year to nearly 1.85 million tons, with flat product output climbing by 13.9% to 1.06 million tons and long product output up by 7.9% to 791,000 tons.

Meanwhile, domestic sales of steel products also saw a notable rise, increasing by 11.5% year on year to 1.83 million tons, while apparent consumption grew by 10.3% to 2.2 million tons. However, exports of steel products declined significantly by 45.5% to 647,000 tons, whereas imports saw a 12.1% increase, reaching 428,000 tons.
