On August 16, 2023, the World Trade Organization (WTO) dispute settlement panel concluded that China’s additional duties measure on certain products from the US is inconsistent with its WTO obligations.

In April 2018, China started to impose additional duties at rates between 15% and 25% on certain products originating in the US in response to US Section 232 tariffs of 25% on steel imports and 10% on aluminum imports, which were levied by the Donald Trump administration in March 2018.
