In 2020, China's crude steel output was 1.053 billion tons, which not only exceeded 1 billion tons for the first time but also set a record high. As of today, China's crude steel output has remained above 1 billion tons for five consecutive years.

However, due to the losses of Chinese steel companies and the increasing resistance to steel exports, crude steel output is currently on a downward trend. In 2024, crude steel output was 1.005 billion tons, a year-on-year decrease of 1.7%.

It was estimated that crude steel production will continue to decline in 2025, perhaps falling below 1 billion tons.
