China’s stainless steel imports & exports rise in Jul

According to statistics, China’s stainless steel imports totaled around 137,000 tons in July, rising by 15.9% compared to the previous month and falling by 23.3% from the year-ago level. Among them, imports from Indonesia were roughly 107,000 tons, a month-on-month increase of 17.5% and a year-on-year drop of 23.9%.

During the period, China exported nearly 360,000 tons of stainless steel, rising by 4.8% from the preceding month and sliding by 13.5% from July last year.

In the first seven months of this year, China’s stainless steel imports amounted to approximately 980,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 47.4%. Imports from Indonesia accounted for 750,000 tons, down by 52% year on year.

China’s stainless steel exports in the January-July period amounted to 2.4 million tons, falling by 15.4% compared to the corresponding period a year earlier.

China’s net exports of stainless steel in July fell by 0.98% month on month and by 5.8% year on year to 223,000 tons. Net export volume in the first seven months was around 1.42 million tons, up by 45.9% year on year.
