China’s Wugang commissions new world-class continuous caster

On July 25, 2025, HBIS Group's Wuyang Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. (Wugang) commenced operations of its new single-strand slab continuous caster provided by Primetals Technologies. This state-of-the-art machine, designed to produce 460mm ultra-thick slabs, is among the most powerful globally.
The caster enables Wugang to meet rising demand for advanced steel in offshore wind power, nuclear energy, pressure vessels, and heavy machinery.
Initial quality checks on the first slab showed no defects. This achievement gives Wugang strong capabilities for producing core materials for national strategic sectors, including high-end shipbuilding, marine engineering, heavy machinery, and national defense.
The partnership aims to broaden Wugang's premium steel product range and reduce operating costs for challenging steel grades.
