This breakthrough allows the replacement of aluminum with Cliffs' steel in critical automotive applications, removing the need for costly retooling.
The achievement, driven by Cliffs’ technical teams, enables a seamless switch, particularly timely given recent disruptions in the aluminum supply chain. Cliffs has transitioned from trial to routine production and is now filling regular orders. Other clients are already inquiring about programs to substitute aluminum with Cliffs' steel, confirming growing confidence in domestic steel supply.
