Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), a premium aluminum producer based in the UAE, announced its new project of domestic silicon metal production in order to secure the supply of key raw materials for premium aluminum manufacturing.

EGA’s first silicon metal facility in the UAE was expected to be operational as early as next year.

Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of EGA, said that the development of a silicon metal production facility could secure the company’s supply of a strategic raw material.

Approximately a quarter of EGA’s production is foundry alloys, applied to the production of automotive components. During the casting process, silicon metal is added to aluminum to manufacture high-strength alloys used in the automotive industry.
