As part of the 13th round of sanctions, the EU is considering a full embargo on Russian aluminum due to the country’s invasion of Ukraine. It was understood that EU countries hope to reach an agreement on the package before the second anniversary of the war between Russia and Ukraine on February 24.

The sanction on Russian aluminum is another way to sanction Russian energy because energy prices account for up to 40% of aluminum smelting costs.

According to European Aluminium, approximately 85% of Russian metal exports to the EU were unaffected by the previous sanction packages.
