Hydro, an aluminum and renewable energy company in Norway, planned to build a new pumped storage power plant in Luster Municipality, Norway, with a total investment of around NOK 1.2 billion.

The planned power plant will have an annual generation of 84 GWh of renewable electricity, mainly for industrial use.

According to the design, the power plant will pump water from the Fivlemyrane reservoir at an altitude of 1,018 meters to the Illvatn reservoir at an altitude of 1,382 meters.

At the same time, Illvatn's reservoir capacity will be increased through the construction of a new drainage tunnel, which will lower the minimum regulated water level. The way will bring less water losses to the Fortun system during the summer and increase production during winter when power demand is high.

The construction of this power plant is scheduled to begin in 2025 and the operation will start in 2028/2029.
