Norwegian aluminum producer Norsk Hydro said on May 19 that it will invest NOK 320 million to modernize and upgrade the power supply system and the anode rodding plant at its Karmøy aluminum smelter, which will enhance the smelter's position as a supplier of low-carbon aluminum products to the European market.

The investment project will begin in the fourth quarter of this year and was expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

Hydro Karmøy has an annual production of primary aluminum of 270,000 tons. The plant has two primary aluminum production lines, AP18 and a technical pilot for Hydro. The new investment will modernize the AP18 line.
