India aims to become one of top five shipbuilding nations in ten years

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Global Maritime Summit in Mumbai said that India is aiming to become one of the top five shipbuilding nations in ten years. Modi also indicated that INS Vikrant, the first carrier built in India, showed India’s shipbuilding capacity. In the past ten years, the capacity of India’s major ports has doubled, and turnaround time for big vessels has decreased from 42 hours in 2014 to below 24 hours.
