According to statistics from the Statistical Institute of Jamaica, the export revenue of Jamaica’s mining industry increased by 33.6% in the first quarter of 2024, reaching US$148.7 million. The increase was mainly due to a significant hike in alumina exports, which reached US$132.2 million, compared to US$89.2 million in the same period a year ago.

However, the growth in alumina exports was slightly offset by decreased bauxite exports. The export value of bauxite slid by 1.9% to US$15.3 million.

In spite of the decrease, Jamaica’s overall export revenue from the mining industry remained strong. This sector still plays an important role in Jamaica's economy.
