Jamalco, a joint venture between Century Aluminum and Clarendon Alumina Production Limited, has initiated steps to restart operations following Hurricane Melissa's landfall on October 28.

Jamalco had taken proactive steps to curtail output at its refinery and mines between October 25 and 26. The company confirmed that no employees were injured and its facilities, including the refinery, mines, and port operations, sustained no significant damage.

Century Aluminum CEO Jesse Gary praised the Jamalco team's preparedness, which ensured employee safety and minimized the hurricane's impact on their operations. He also noted the substantial effect the hurricane had on Jamaica and said the company is collaborating with the Government of Jamaica and partner Clarendon Alumina Production Limited to support local communities.

Jamalco plans to progressively return to normal production levels over the coming weeks. Century Aluminum expects no material effect from the event on its financial results.
