Japan’s coal imports fall to 10-month low in Apr

According to statistics from the Ministry of Finance Japan, Japan's coal imports totaled around 13.5 million tons in April this year, falling by 19.5% compared to the preceding month while rising by 1.6% from the same month a year ago. The figure hit a new low since July 2021.

During the period, the import value was roughly 460 billion yen, a month-on-month increase of 2.2% and a year-on-year surge of two times.

In the first four months of this year, Japan imported approximately 60.9 million tons of coal, increasing by 2.4% year on year. The import value totaled roughly 1,667 billion yen, soaring by 176% year on year.
