In April, Japan's steel exports decreased by 5.7% year on year to about 2.52 million tons. Among them, South Korea was the main export destination, with a decrease of 22.9% year on year to around 372,000 tons. South Korea's manufacturing purchasing managers' index (PMI) in April fell to 49.4 from 49.8 in March, which was the reason for weak steel demand.

Besides, Thailand was the second biggest export destination, dropping by 10.5% year on year to about 359,000 tons. At the same time, Japan's steel exports to China totaled about 226,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 5.8%.
