Japan's steel imports in Sep hit monthly record high for this year

Japan's Ministry of Finance reported that the country's steel imports in September reached about 641,000 tons, hitting the monthly record high for this year. This reflected a 21.8% increase from the previous month and a 0.6% rise year on year.

Among them, steel imports from Asia totaled about 564,000 tons, a 1.4% decline compared to last year. Imports from China increased by 7% to 126,000 tons, while those from South Korea dropped by 4.8% to 319,000 tons. Imports from ASEAN countries fell sharply by 46.6% to 22,000 tons. Imports from Russia decreased by 81% to 1,700 tons. Meanwhile, imports from the EU and the US were 6,100 tons and 400 tons, respectively, both down by 16.5%.
