On Wednesday (November 27), the Odisha government said it would not allow bauxite mining by Adani Group or any other company in Gandhamardan hills in Bolangir and Baragarh districts.

Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Revenue and Disaster Management Suresh Pujari clarified that rumors that the government planned to allow mining by the Adani Group are untrue.

Singh Deo pointed out that the BJD government had previously allowed the Adani Group to purchase land on the site for compensatory afforestation, but the current BJP government has promised to protect the Gandhamardan hills.

Besides, Pujari said that the government will not allow any plant construction in Gandhamardan hills, which will hurt the religious sentiments of the local people.
