Luxury German carmaker Porsche faced a severe supply shortage for aluminum vehicle components after a critical supplier's factory was flooded. The aluminum supplier declared a force majeure event, indicating it cannot fulfill its contractual obligations due to uncontrollable circumstances.

In its midyear financial report, Porsche warned that the disruptions could impact every vehicle it manufactures and may force temporary production shutdowns for some vehicle series. The aluminum shortage also affected BMW and Mercedes-Benz, though they have reportedly found alternative suppliers.

The company scaled back its financial outlook. Expected revenues from sales for the year have been reduced to EUR39-40 billion, and the expected return on sales has been lowered from 15-17% to 14-15%.
