On September 10, 2021, hundreds of residents from three village councils in the Semiliguda block joined this protest and resisted the resumption of operations at the Maliparbat mine.

Before the environment clearance hearing is held by the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) on September 22, the local resistance protested against the renewed operations at the Maliparbat bauxite mine.

This protest was organized by the Maliparbat Surakhya Samiti (MPSS). The protesters gathered to resist Hindalco Group’s action to renew leases to restart the bauxite mining.
