Anglo-Australian mining giant Rio Tinto confirmed an accident on August 24 at its SimFer iron ore mine in Guinea. The company has announced a suspension of all operations at the site and will conduct a thorough investigation.

The SimFer mine is part of the Simandou project, considered Africa's largest mining and infrastructure development initiative. According to Rio Tinto’s website, the region holds approximately 1.5 billion tons of high-grade iron ore, making it a globally strategic resource.

There's no clear timeline established for resuming operations at the mine. Rio Tinto emphasized that safety remains the top priority and will continue to invest in improving the working environment to prevent future incidents.
