Rio Tinto reaches agreement with Madagascar government to support long-term operation of QMM mine

Rio Tinto and the Government of Madagascar have reached an agreement on QIT Madagascar Minerals' (QMM) future financial arrangements and renewed their long-term partnership to facilitate the sustainable operation of the QMM mine.

The new agreement was confirmed by the High Constitutional Court of Madagascar in August 2023 and signed on August 22, 2023.

The signing of this agreement will enhance the benefits for the people of Madagascar, support the sustainable development of the QMM mine, and provide more certainty for future development of Rio Tinto.

Rio Tinto is committed to responsibly developing its mineral sand mining business in Madagascar and creating more benefits for Madagascar.
