Global mining company Rio Tinto partnered with German luxury vehicles manufacturer BMW Group and created a new, innovative partnership, aiming to develop more responsible, sustainable, traceable, and secure supply chains.

According to the deal, from 2024, Rio Tinto will provide responsibly sourced aluminum to BMW Group for its manufacturing plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, for use in body components.

Compared to BMW Group’s benchmark for aluminum, CO2 emissions from Rio Tinto’s low-carbon primary aluminum, produced in the company’s hydro-powered operations in Canada, is 70% lower.
