Rio Tinto’s Weipa operations’ bauxite shipment grows in 2023

The shipment of bauxite at Rio Tinto’s Weipa operations reached 35.12 million tons in 2023, up by 1.7% compared to the previous year.

Shona Markham, the General Manager of Weipa operations, said that 2023 is a challenging year due to the rainy season in the first quarter, while the operations achieved a strong recovery in the second half of the year, especially having a strong performance in the fourth quarter.

In addition, the bauxite shipment at Rio Tinto’s Gove operation totaled 11.5 million tons in 2023, and other bauxite sources were from mines in Guinea and Brazil.
