Alum Tulcea, the only alumina refinery in Romania, announced that it will suspend production from August 1 due to soaring electricity and natural gas prices and much cheaper imported alumina.

Alum Tulcea is a company controlled indirectly by Vimetco through the aluminum producer Alro Slatina. Most of Alum Tulcea’s alumina is supplied to Alro Slatina and a small quantity is for export.

Alro Slatina and Alum Tulcea will import alumina through the port of Constanța.
