Ma'aden, a Saudi Arabian mining company, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with US-based industrial solar steam company GlassPoint to build the world's largest solar process heat plant at its alumina refinery, aiming significantly reduce the carbon footprint from the alumina production.

The new facility will provide 1,500 megawatts of solar-powered industrial steam for Ma’aden’s alumina refinery, which can reduce carbon emissions by 600,000 tons per year and lower the alumina refinery’s carbon footprint by 50%, which accounts for 4% of Ma'aden's total carbon emissions.
