US steelmaker Steel Dynamics Inc. (SDI) stated that it remains optimistic about the market outlook for 2025-2026, driven by the reshoring of manufacturing and growing infrastructure demand. SDI believes that this reshoring trend is driving opportunities across multiple industries and leading to shifts in trade enforcement, environmental technology, and business diversification, potentially reshaping the metals industry landscape.

Regarding trade policy, the US anti-dumping case against galvanized steel, involving approximately ten countries, is expected to issue its final ruling at the end of September. Preliminary findings indicate widespread dumping. If upheld, this would mark a significant trade defense victory for the US after three years of litigation. SDI emphasized that maintaining tariffs under Section 232 is crucial to ensuring market security and preventing unfair competition.

In addition, the investment in biochar technology introduced at SDI's new Mississippi plant represents over 50% greater than the company's typical mid-sized projects. This technology converts forestry waste into biochar, capable of increasing annual processing capacity several times over the current pilot scale, and has been successfully tested in electric arc furnaces. SDI stated that this technology will become a key pillar of its low-carbon production process, contributing to the development of green steel in the United States.
