According to statistics from Taiwan's Ministry of Finance, Taiwan's steel imports and exports both increased in August compared to the previous month. Total steel imports, including carbon steel, stainless steel, and special steel, were 387,900 tons, up by 11.9% month on month, and exports grew by 33.3% month on month to 796,400 tons.

The rise in imports was linked to lower procurement costs due to the appreciation of the New Taiwan Dollar. Export growth was likely driven by an urgency to ship products before new US tariffs took effect.

This growth was particularly remarkable in carbon steel. Imports reached 257,000 tons, up by 32.2% month on month; exports amounted to 638,000 tons, rising by 37.4% month on month.
