Due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic, global aluminum demand dropped significantly, and it further impacted the downstream industries of aluminum, such as the automotive industry.

The US’ automobiles sales volume was previously forecasted at 16 million units, but the figure was down to lower than 12 million.

Due to the sluggish demand, Aludyne, Inc., a Michigan-based aluminum and iron cast chassis producer, was going to lay off 250 employees at its locations in Michigan and Georgia.

Besides, Alcoa Corp. announced that it will shut down its aluminum smelter in Ferndale, Washington and lay off 700 employees. The firm also said that it is cutting its global smelting capacity by nearly half.
