The Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) once again called on the cancelation of the 232 tariffs on aluminum imports since the tariff caused a significant hike in aluminum extruders’ costs.

According to the AEC, Alcoa’s Intalco aluminum smelter in Ferndale was going to be closed, which reflected that the 232 aluminum tariff didn’t realize the government’s original goal to help the local industry.

Moreover, due to Intalco works’ shutdown, the local aluminum extruders had no choice but to import aluminum since these companies will lose the supply of primary aluminum billet from the producers west of the Mississippi.
