Statistics from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) showed that the US imported 527,000 tons of bauxite in the second quarter of this year, falling by 28% compared to the same period a year ago. The drop was due to lower bauxite demand caused by decreased primary aluminum production, which slid by 12% in the second quarter.

In the first half of this year, US bauxite imports amounted to 1.03 million tons, falling by 14.2% from 1.2 million tons in the same period last year.
