The Trump administration has expanded its 50% tariffs on steel and aluminum imports by adding hundreds of new derivative products. The US Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) announced the addition of 407 additional Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) product codes to the list of goods subject to the tariffs.

The new levies take effect at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time on August 18, 2025. This action means that the steel and aluminum content in these products will be taxed at 50%. The non-metallic portions will remain subject to the original tariff rates set for specific countries of origin.

The change is part of the existing Section 232 tariffs.
