U.S. Expands Tariffs and Xinjiang Import Scrutiny, Targeting Steel, Lithium, and Heavy Equipment

The U.S. Department of Commerce announced Tuesday that 407 additional product categories, including wind turbines, railcars, heavy equipment, and furniture, will now face 50% tariffs. At the same time, the Trump administration expanded enforcement of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, adding steel, copper, lithium, red dates, and caustic soda to its list of high-priority sectors for scrutiny.
