Baosteel, the world's largest steel producer and a subsidiary of Baowu Group, is developing a continuous casting project in the Shanghai area. This marks Baowu Group's third casting machine order within three months. The new continuous casting machine will produce both traditional and silicon steel grades, primarily supplying industries such as home appliances and automobiles.

The new continuous casting machine, with an annual production capacity of 2.35 million tons, will produce sheets ranging from 230 x 900 to 1,450 millimeters. It will utilize innovative technology models recently developed by Primetals Technologies, which reduce fluctuations in the mold's liquid level.

In January this year, Baosteel began operating a direct reduction iron plant in Guangdong Province, with an annual production capacity of 1 million tons. This plant uses natural gas, coke oven gas, and hydrogen.
